How 15 minutes in the morning can change the course of your entire day!
It wasn’t until a few years ago that I realized that I wasn’t truly living life. Sure, I took vacations, spent time with friends, and attended social gatherings but I wasn’t living. I was simply going through the motions of what I thought life was supposed to be. I was following the pack and getting lost in the journey. Have you ever felt like there was just more to life? Have you ever had a desire or urge that you just couldn’t put your finger on? Well I am here to share with you part of my story and show you how I started to change my life from ordinary to extraordinary. It may seem overwhelming at the time but just making a few small changes can turn everything around for you.
Let’s start with the moment you wake up in the morning. At one time, I would wake up, roll over, and kinda huff and puff and drag myself out of bed to face the day. Now, there are many mornings when I wake up before the alarm even goes off excited to see what the day holds. I’m going to fill you in on a little secret…spending just 15 minutes in the morning doing this one thing can alter your energy both spiritually, emotionally, and physically for the entire day! Hard to believe right! I was a sceptic myself but I promise you it works. What is this morning ritual I speak of?
Cook yourself a healthy breakfast at home every morning before leaving the house.
I know this sounds simple enough but there are so many people nowadays that sleep in as late as possible and wake up to rush out of the house and hit the drive thru on the way to work or skip breakfast altogether. We stuff our faces with the closest resemblance of food and hope it will hold us over until lunch. Many times these quick fixes can leave us feeling exhausted and drained both mentally and physically. “Convenience foods” as they call them have become such a big part of our generation that we hardly even think about having a healthy balanced breakfast on a daily basis. It seems like we live on coffee, donuts, granola bars, and cereal. All of which are ultimately sapping our energy and negating our living.
Here is what I mean by cook yourself a healthy breakfast. Get up 15 minutes earlier than required. Go into your kitchen and prepare a breakfast of your liking. Whether it be eggs, toast, bacon, or a smoothie; it doesn’t matter as long as you are using real ingredients and making it fresh. After you have prepared your breakfast I want you to sit at the kitchen table or on your patio and enjoy your meal. This is what I call mindful eating. I want you to savor and enjoy the experience. While this next request might seem odd I promise that it will improve the overall experience for you. Use a glass plate and glass dishes. Heck, even pull out the fine china if you like. I mean why do we save that for a special occasion anyways? Isn’t everyday special?
Aren’t you special?
There is just something so nurturing about cooking for yourself and taking care of your body. You are special and you should treat yourself that way every day. Spend this time on yourself and enjoy the process. You may even want to turn on some music and dance around the kitchen while you prepare breakfast.
I can guarantee you that by taking this time and enjoying your meal you will feel more satisfied and fulfilled first thing in the morning. This experience can stay with you all day and you will feel more energized and positive about the day you have ahead of you. This one small act of kindness towards yourself can open up a whole new world you aren’t even familiar with yet. While it seems like it’s not a big deal and that you are simply cooking breakfast you are actually feeding yourself both spiritually and emotionally.
Here are a few of my favorite things to do:
● Do NOT turn on the TV
● Dance around the kitchen or sing and listen to upbeat music while cooking
● Bless the food and mentally prepare for the wonderful day ahead
● Turn off all music while eating and focus on enjoying the meal
Cooking breakfast for yourself in the morning is just one simple way that you can live a mindful life. When we start to live mindfully we realize very quickly how precious every experience is in life and appreciate the small things.
Mindful eating can also help us to curb our appetite and decrease stress. By practicing mindful eating, you will feel more satisfied and ultimately it can help us to not overeat or binge.
As always, I would love to hear your thoughts and know how your 15 minutes in the morning benefits you.
